We offer a Master's Degree (2 years full time) or a Certificate Degree (1 year full time). Part-time study is available.   To apply, begin by reviewing the check list below and the university's general application requirements for graduation admission. If you are an international applicant, please see additional requirements

Application Deadlines

Master's Program:

February 15 is priority deadline (apply by priority deadline if you want to be considered for assistantship)
June 1 is final deadline

Certificate Program: 

June 1 is final deadline

You can also take a class as a non-degree student to start earning credits. 

Accelerated Master's Program

For highly-qualified UMass Boston undergraduates in the College of Liberal Arts and Honors College, this unique program allows you to finish your master’s degree in approximately half the time and at half the cost of a traditional two-year master’s program.

You will replace undergraduate electives with graduate coursework before matriculating as a graduate student to complete your master’s degree.

Take A Class

Get to know our programs by taking a single course. This will let you assess if the content and structure of the program meets your goals and fits with your other commitments.  These are 3-credit graduate level courses and the credits can transfer to one of our programs  (restrictions apply).  You must have a bachelor's degree to enroll. 

Learn about taking a class as a non degree student 

When you apply online, you must submit official transcripts from each college or university you attended, even if you were not awarded a degree.

Submit two letters of recommendation from people familiar with your academic abilities.

Résumé

You'll also need to submit your résumé/curriculum vitae.

Each application requires a non-refundable fee of $60 for domestic applicants and $100 for international applicants. This fee cannot be waived or deferred.

Writing Sample

A writing sample is optional.

Statement of Purpose

Master's Program Applicants Answer all 3 questions

  1. Outline the development of your interest in conflict resolution, leading to your decision to apply to the program. (500-1,000 words)
  2. Describe one or more specific experiences you have had with conflict. What was your role? What were your rewards and frustrations? (500-1,000 words)
  3. How will you apply the skills, knowledge, and perspective acquired through the program in your current and/or future employment? (500-1,000 words)

Statement of Purpose

Certificate Program Applicants Answer both questions: 

  1. Describe one or more specific experiences you have had with conflict. What was your role? What were your rewards and frustrations? (500-750 words)
  2. How will you apply the skills, knowledge, and perspective acquired through the program in your current and/or future employment? (500-750 words)

In addition to uploading and/or sending all the required documents to the Office of Graduate Admissions, please submit a copy of the following materials to the department via email at conresglobal@umb.edu.

  • Résumé/curriculum vitae
  • Statement of purpose
  • Writing sample  (optional)
  • Unofficial copies (if available) of transcripts and test scores

Financial Aid

A limited number of merit-based research assistantships are awarded to accepted master’s students. These assistantships waive a portion of tuition and fees. In addition, graduate assistants are required to work  for a faculty or staff member in exchange for a partial cash stipend. If you are interested in being considered for an assistantship send a letter of interest detailing your relevant experience and skills to conresglobal@umb.edu
